Shani Transit 2027: Exact Dates, and the Rewind Nobody Mentions

Saturn changes sign roughly once every two and a half years, and 2027 is one of those years. But it is not a clean handover. Saturn crosses into Aries, turns retrograde, walks back into Pisces, and only settles in Aries the following spring. Most transit articles report the first date and stop, which is how readers end up expecting a change that then appears to un-happen.

Here are the dates, computed from Saturn's actual sidereal position rather than copied from a list, and given in IST because that is what an Indian almanac publishes.

The three dates that matter

So Saturn is in Aries for about four and a half months, gone for four, then back for the next two years. If you are counting the transit as a single block, the honest answer is that it begins in June 2027 and begins again in February 2028.

Why Saturn reverses at all

It does not. No planet reverses. Retrograde is apparent motion: Earth moves faster on a shorter orbit, and when it overtakes Saturn the outer planet appears to slide backwards against the fixed stars, the way a slower train seems to drift back when yours passes it. Saturn's own motion never changes. What changes is the angle we watch it from.

The reason it matters here is arithmetic rather than mysticism. Saturn crossed into Aries barely two months before the station, so the retrograde arc was always going to carry it back over the boundary. A sign change that happens shortly before a retrograde is nearly always provisional.

What the tradition makes of Aries

Classical Jyotish treats Aries as Saturn's sign of debilitation, the placement where it is furthest from comfortable. Aries belongs to Mars and rewards speed, appetite and the first move. Saturn rewards none of those. It is slow, it is interested in consequences, and its method is to withhold a result until the work behind it is real.

Read plainly, that is what a debilitated Saturn tends to produce: effort that does not immediately pay, ambition that meets a delay it did not budget for, and a strong pull to act before the ground is ready. It is not a punishment. It is a bad match between a planet's method and a sign's temperament, and the practical response is unglamorous - start fewer things, finish what is already open, and let the delay do its editing.

Who this actually lands on

Saturn's transit is read from the Moon sign, your janma rashi, not the Sun sign a Western horoscope uses. That single distinction changes the answer for most people, because the two rarely agree. The honest limit of a page like this

Everything above is the transit alone. What a transit actually does depends on where Saturn sits in your chart, which house it rules for your ascendant, and which dasha period you are running - a Saturn transit during a Saturn dasha is a different experience from the same transit during a Venus one.
