Anuradha is the lotus that opens in muddy water, and Mitra is the god of friendship, the one who makes strangers into allies by keeping his word. Saturn rules it, so nothing here is quick, and everything here is durable. This is the nakshatra of devotion that survives the conditions it was formed in.

The Symbol and Its Story

Mitra is the Aditya of friendship and contract, the god invoked when two parties agree to trust each other, and the word itself still means 'friend' in most Indian languages. The lotus is the symbol, and the lotus is chosen with care: it does not grow in clear water, it grows in mud, and its beauty is not a denial of the mud but a use of it.
