Chitra means 'the brilliant', 'the dazzling', 'the many-coloured', and it is the single jewel set in the sky's own necklace. Its deity is Vishwakarma, the architect who built the gods' cities and forged their weapons, and its nature is design: not decoration, but the deep structural beauty that makes a thing work and shine at once. Chitra is what happens when Mars is handed a chisel instead of a sword.

The Symbol and Its Story

Tvashtar, later Vishwakarma, is the divine craftsman: he built Lanka and Dwarka and Indraprastha, he forged the thunderbolt from a sage's bones, and he is the patron of every architect, engineer and artisan since.
