Rohini is the Moon's favourite wife, and the entire cosmology has trouble with it. This is the nakshatra of the red-glowing one, of growth, sap, fertility and the kind of beauty that makes people forget what they were arguing about. Everything Rohini touches grows, and everything that grows around Rohini becomes slightly harder to leave.

The Symbol and Its Story

Chandra the Moon married all twenty-seven daughters of Daksha and then spent all his time with Rohini alone, which earned him a curse of wasting and gave us the waxing and waning moon. That is the essential story: Rohini is what one returns to and cannot ration. Brahma as deity makes this the seat of creation itself, and the ox-cart symbol is agricultural rather than romantic, the vehicle in which the harvest actually comes home.
