Uttara Ashadha is 'the later invincible one', and where its sister declares the victory, this one holds it. Its deities are the Vishvedevas, the ten universal gods, which is the sky's way of saying that this success has been ratified by everybody. Nothing won here has to be won again.

The Symbol and Its Story

The Vishvedevas are the ten collective gods, universal principles rather than personalities, and they include the deities of resolve, truth, time and skill. To have all ten behind an asterism is to say that this victory is not a faction's win but the whole assembly's judgement. The symbol is again the elephant tusk, and also the planks of a bed, the part that bears the sleeper's weight. Uttara Ashadha's animal is the mongoose, the only creature in the yoni system without a mate, which is the quiet fact underneath all this success: the final victory is achieved alone.
